Equipement
The tower that will be installed on the landowners property is a 20 meter tilt-up tower with three levels of guyed support. This is the basic configuration and dimensions of the tower. The tower will have an anemometer, wind vane and lightning rod mounted on the top.

The anemometer is the wind measuring device. The cups are moved by the wind and the rate of rotation is used to determine the wind speed.

The wind vane is rotated by the wind pressure on the back fin and is used to determine the wind direction. Wind direction is important when siting a wind turbine in order to get the maximum amount of power out of the wind.

The Wind Explorer receives the signals from the wind vane and anemometer, computes some averages and other statistics and writes data to the data plug.

The data plug stores all of the information that the Wind Explorer processes. The data plug is removed each month and replaced with a new one. The plug is sent to Oregon State University's Energy Resource Research Laboratory where the information is extracted and processed.
